Here is the complete checklist of the submission package components. Kindly email all components to human@cdwa.ca.
Required Items:
1. Signed approval of the CDWA Code of Ethics
2. Proof of Pet First Aid Certification, through a credible source. If you have not taken a Pet First Aid course, CDWA has partnered with dogsafe.ca and can offer you a 30% discount on two of their courses, upon joining as a member.
3. Proof of formal LIMA/R+/FF courses, if it exists. We understand this is a unique request and courses to the Walker/Boarder/Daycare community are limited. No judgement. If you have taken any courses, let us know.
4. Police Clearance Letter
This is a background check and is very important to the vetting process. Clients must be sure you are a bonded professional. If your current PCL is five years old or more, please apply for a new one in your region (through your local police or RCMP website) and email it in with your submission. The cost ranges from $25-30 for a standard clearance, or more if you choose the vulnerable peoples clearance, depending where you live. Allow 2-3 weeks for this process.
5. Your Profile Information
This is for your member search profile – reference this page for all required information to complete your profile. Please note, the main header picture is the “hero” shot. It should be your best picture ever and only of you, preferably without dogs. Size is 1800px wide by 500px high. Please ensure you appear in the middle of the banner, so you are visible on an iPhone and Tablet.
6. City Permit
A scan or picture of your permit. These are required in most Canadian cities if you walk groups with higher numbers of dogs. We must be able to confirm you comply with your city’s bylaws.
7. Client Contract sample
Your client contract is so vital to protecting you, your dogs and their parents. If you don’t have a strong, legally-vetted contract, we recommend taking EduCanine’s Dog Walker Contract Package course ($45). The course is invaluable to understanding the ins-and-outs of your liability as a guardian, and it sets you up properly with your dogs’ veterinarians, should an emergency occur.
8. Proof of Insurances (a Certificate of Insurance only)
Auto, if you transport dogs, and Business Liability.
9. Identification
Please include ONE high quality scan of ONE piece of picture I.D. It must be government-issued identification (ie: driver’s licence, health card). This is an insurer requirement, also, if you would like to join the Group Health Benefits plan.
10. Write up a quick cover letter, indicating you want membership and, if you want group health benefits, which plan applies to you (life insurance only, single, family, or none).
11. Join as a CDWA member for $15.00/month (tax-free).
If you do want health benefits, please download/approve and include this information in your submission:
